Puerto Montt

Awakening to a very pleasant sunny morning we hit the road heading to Puerto Montt.

That turned out to be an interesting town, historic and clean.

We stopped for lunch at McDonalds (believe it or not) and planned our next move.

Corinne had some fun with a shy Chilean boy trying to have him pose for a photo. The prospect of receiving a balloon finally got him to peek over the booth for me to steal a picture.

Our decision was to drive down the Isla Grande de Chiloe and take the ferry across from Quellon to Chaiten.

After a good deal of searching and “talking” to locals (remember, we only know poquito Espanol) we found out there was no ferry until Sunday – YES!! Now we can kick back and finally have a 2 day vacation!

After getting boletos for the bikes and ourselves, we stopped at a restaurant on the ocean for lunch. A seemingly high class place with white tablecloths. The owner was excited about telling us of his feature fish and how it was prepared. We made our choices and they turned out to be great. (The price reflected that fact!) Incidentally, the Owner insisted his lobster was the best there was south of Santiago and they did look large and juicy. I couldn’t bring myself to eat fresh lobster for lunch. Isn’t that illegal? Later I wished I had!
