Failed Attempts

Disappointing, but that’s how it goes sometimes. I (Duane) developed a leaking front fork seal yesterday on our way to La Paz. (Damn some of those potholes are deep!)

Rising early we set about to get it fixed. We had a taxi guide us to the only motorcycle shop in the phonebook - a Honda dealer. No joy for this task as there is no BMW dealer in Bolivia and cross referencing the seal was not possible. Corinne headed back to the Hotel in another taxi and I followed with the bike. This wild goose chase cost us B 20 Bolivianos… about USD $3.00 for the 20 KM cab ride there and back. What a waste of good money. That would have bought me a 6 pack of Cervesa!

Since it was only 10:00AM we decided to make a run to Corioco and back on the WMDR. (World’s Most Dangerous Road… Google it)

50 Km’s into the ride we were just coming up to the turnoff from the Carretera when heavy dense fog and light rain set in. It was here to stay, so the day ended up being a bust. We were not about to ride “Death Road” in fog and rain.

We headed back to La Paz for supper and a good night’s sleep. Oh Lucy… I had the Trout from Lake Titticaca stuffed with seafood and smothered in white cheese with fresh veggies. I wasn’t too keen on the head and tail still being attached with the poor old soul staring at me relentlessly with one eye, but it was absolutely fantastic. Cost? USD $10.00.

Bolivia is indeed a bargain!!
