Initially the road is flat and close to the ocean, then heads into the hilly forest with the Andes in the distance.
We notice many dead trees among the living trees of the forest. Odd! What would have killed them? Some areas were obviously devastated by fire some years ago, and some low-lying areas might have flooded, but why are there so many dead trees on the hillsides? This will be a question for a tour guide in Ushuaia.
We are happy to find out that the entire road to Ushuaia is paved. Our maps still show about 100 kms of gravel, but they are obviously a few years out of date.
