It's Really Going To Happen

The bikes are leaving. I guess that makes it official. We must chase after them and rescue them from the clutches of the Peruvian Customs Office. Hopefully that will be a straightforward and painless operation. We have heard stories of things that have gone terribly wrong. One person had to wait four weeks to clear his bike through customs because of incorrect paperwork. That would sure make a dent in an eight week vacation! We have checked and double checked our paperwork for errors, so hopefully we will be on the road in Peru in a couple of days.

We plan on travelling a bit north before heading towards Tierra Del Fuego, in order to ride a road that I discovered while surfing the internet. It is a pass through the Cordillera Blanca called Punta Olympica at 16,043 feet. I sure hope there is air up there!!

Well, now that the motorcycles have been picked up by the shipping company it feels more like this "once in a lifetime adventure" (well for us anyway, many people have done a lot more) is really going to happen!

The next week will probably be somewhat sleepless as we wonder "what did we forget?" Looking at the pile of luggage sitting on the family room floor, ready to accompany us on our airplane ride, I'd have to say, "not a damn thing!" The riding jackets, boots, tools, spare parts, books and maps are already packed with the bikes, so why on earth is there so much "stuff" still waiting to be packed? Oh Corinne..... Do you think maybe the toaster or coffee pot could be left at home???
